Article about Harley Davidson Motorcycles

For its quality, Harley-Davidson has been a top motorcycle manufacturing company since it has been in the industry for more than a hundred years now. It’s amazing how four young men earned millions after their experiment with internal combustion and build up a trusted motorcycle company that is well known and respectable these days.

Harley-Davidson can be found in most countries as it has branches in America, Europe, Asia and other places. In this, interested buyers have now an easy access to know about the company more. Harley-Davidson motorcycles or popularly known as “Harleys” are especially distinguished because of its distinctive design and sound. Harleys’ designs are built in a tradition of heavy customization that attracts people especially those motorcycle enthusiasts.

Two-cylinder, V-Twin engines with pistons mounted in 45 degrees is the classic Harley-Davidson engine. The crankshaft has single pin where both pistons are connected through connecting rods that causes the pistons to fire at uneven intervals. For Big V-Twin engines Harley-Davidson used many types of engines since the early 1900’s.  This engine includes F-head, Flathead, Knucklehead, Panhead, Shovelhead, Evolution, and the Twin Cam which is used up until now. There are small V-Twins engines too such as Ironhead and Evolution, which are the latest engines used for Sportster model Harleys. The last engine of Harleys is called the Revolution engine as it is jointly designed and developed by Harley-Davidson and Porsche in Germany. Harley-Davidson even developed a motorcycle made for drag racings with the use of revolution engine for top caliber features.

Current model families of Harley-Davidson motorcycles which are available now in Harley-Davidson dealers are the Sportster, Dyna, Softail, Touring and VRSC or Revolution. The touring family includes three Road King models and five Glide models. Most models of Road King models are equipped with a large clear windshield and looks like a “retro cruiser” in appearance while Glides can be identified because of its full front fairings. Fairings such as “Batwing” because of its unmistakable shape and “Sharknose” due to its dual headlight are just some of Road Glide model’s features. Touring model motorcycles are easy to handle at low speed and high thus giving any rider a comfortable and relaxing ride of Harley. Softail is another family of Harley motorcycle models which is considered as the big-twin model. This model follows the strong value of Harleys’ tradition, the reasons they attached “springer” front ends and “heritage” styling that incorporates design cues. Another model family is called Dyna motorcycle which is made of big twin engines and traditional styling. Sportster is the longest running motorcycle model of Harleys. They are built for racing too as it can be used both in flat-rack and in dirty motorcycle courses. Harley-Davidson produced a collector’s edition called the XL50 1200 using Sportster engine with 2000 units available in the market.  The latest of all these models is the VRSC or called V-Twin Racing Street Custom. It was first introduced last 2001 with its features similar to Harley’s traditional line up. This motorcycle model is worth riding because its engine was developed by both companies of Harley-Davidson as well as one of the top makers of vehicles located in Germany, called Porsche.
